Buckner Building…again.
Sunday, March 7th, 2010
I cant stay away from this place. Abandoned buildings are great. Abandoned military buildings are even greater. And monstrous, haunted, cold war era, abandoned military buildings are the best…yup yup. Every turn turns up something weird to be investigated. It would take days in this creephouse to see it all. Theres nothing like cold war panic to make awesome shit to explore. Alaska has the creme de la creme of said awesome shit. Theres old concrete all over the state left over from the iron curtain fallout. Included with the Buckner tour is a 2 mile drive through the MIDDLE OF A FUCKING MOUNTAIN.. also a throwback to a time when nuclear apocalypse was always close at hand. The reason the building still stands is because it would be too difficult to carry the leftovers out of the town and through the tunnel (the longest in the US.)

Lucky stars
Thursday, February 4th, 2010“Go let her out…”
Thursday, February 4th, 2010I rode back one day from the feed store with her in my lap. A tiny brown face looking surprisingly curious into my own. She squeeked the whole way home in disapproval of her new surroundings and company. A few years later she was eaten by a pack of snarling dogs while attempting to introduce herself…no doubt a result of her identity crisis (growing up with house dogs). Ducks are social creatures. Dogs are as well…but sometimes they eat ducks. Beepers had a schedule. Like any refined creature of habit she preferred some things routine over chaos…and she made this known. No where in the house was the drywall thick enough to drown out the insistent quacking and scratching of wings on the old wood door. 5am came and went with the shuffling of sleepy feet as mom released the queen from her bed chamber…a cardboard box in the garage. Ms. Judy, our neighbor, would disturb throngs of worms while gardening next door. Beepers could feast and increase her neighborhood standing at once. She was smart like that.
